In order to clear mud and sand from the outer harbour and channel it is necessary to close and ‘run’ the gates, this is normally done at spring tides. Boat owners whose boats are in the inner basin and who have a particular need to go to sea during these times should contact the harbourmaster in advance. The Harbourmaster will do his best to find temporary berthing in the outer basin.
